Early Morning Rose

I can't resist putting flowers in glass vases, looking through the glass and water makes for great abstract paintings.  Painting abstract takes the same amount of concentration as realistic painting.

Trader Joe Flowers

Love looking through the flowers at Trader Joes.  When you put them into a little oil painting the flowers never die.

Summer Flowers

I like to paint a variety of subjects so I often switch from still life to landscape then to the human figure.  It is good to keep your skills adept to change,  it also keeps your mind sharp.

How about a Dels

Dels is a popular lemonade stand in RI.  All over the state during the summer months you will find stands with this logo.  Everyone in RI drinks Dels in the summer!  The girl in this one is my niece Casey:)

Providence Reflections

This painting is resolved and I did not record the process although the picture was one that I took at the end of the summer last year.  So I painted the cityscape looking at the photo on my computer.  I will be in Providence for Festival Fete so I need to create some paintings of Rhode Island with local subject matter.

Narragansett Beach 1

This is the third step of the painting, adding the details.  I always start with the darkest darks, then I go wherever the lush paint takes me.  It is very easy to paint for hours without thinking " I need to stop" step back and review and look for what part needs improvement.  The REFLECTION piece is very important so that you can learn from your mistakes.

Narragansett Beach 1

So I started sketching from some pictures that I took this summer at the beach.  The first step was the pencil drawing, the second part was the light orange acrylic paint on the surface of the masonite, I like to prime the board with acrylic paint and when that dries you can start your  oil paint sketch.  The beach was so busy that the pictures have a busy composition with a lot of interesting people and the swarm of beach chairs adds interesting lines comming on and off the edge of the composition.

Rhode Island Cranston Country Club

This is the golf course in Cranston for the next series I would like to add the human figure.

Springtime in Rhode Island

Springtime in RI has been like Springtime in Seattle! An abundance of precipitation, the Scituate Reservoir will be at full capacity. The beautiful pinks and fuschias of the trees did not last long I was fortunate to get a few good pictures.

"Gotta have a Dunkin"

This is a popular place to buy coffee in Rhode Island every morning before work a large part of  "Little Rhody" dwellers wait in lines for a cup of Joe from Dunkin.  This is my 3rd Rhode Island painting I will be posting more of this POP Art, popular culture theme for RI.

Thank you for viewing

The World Needs Polish 2

The shape of the bottles, the color, the small size, the shine and shimmer, which one should I try.

Cranston Country Club

Another view of the club, a great place for artists to gather.

Landscape at the Rhode Island Cranston Country Club

This is the Cranston Country Club where my husband and son love to play golf.  I would rather sit and paint the landscape, is very peacful... I can understand why people enjoy the sport.

Liberty Thinking

This is a picture of me in Goodland,Florida I was taking pictures with my father this day. I'm holding a camera case in my right hand. The title comes from my thoughts about a famous painting called "Liberty Leading the People", out of one of my art history books. My thoughts for this painting are~ Women must seek faith, courage, and education.

Big Brother

This painting is from a picture that I took in Monteray California this summer. Every time I look at the fat man I smile, so if someone can help spark humor they need to be part of a special painting that can make others smile!

This is the photo that I referred to for the oil painting.  The strong light source makes the painting come to life.

Frisbee anyone?

This is my puppy Skye, she loves to play frisbee in the backyard.  I painted this from a photo, I was attracted to the bright sunlight on her snow white hair. It's difficult to get a good puppy picture because she is always running to fast for the camera.

Marco Beach ll

This was the one warm day on Marco Beach,  Robyn and her daughter, I thought this made a lovely composition.

Marco Beach

It has been cold in Florida too!  This is the Marco Island Beach located on the Gulf of Mexico.  The water is still, no big waves so perfect for seeing what may be swimming below your knees.  I did enjoy one warm day in December.
